Progress Elementary briefly placed under lockdown; parent reportedly shot at while picking up child
BATON ROUGE - Progress Elementary was placed under lockdown after shots were fired nearby, officials told WBRZ.
The call came in around 2:50 p.m. Officials said shots were fired somewhere near the school, and that the school was briefly placed under lockdown.
EBR Schools sent out a statement saying that "parent who was on the way to Progress Elementary reported that someone fired shots at their vehicle," and that the incident did not happen on school property.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately placed the campus on lockdown and contacted law enforcement. Officers responded promptly and thoroughly checked the area," officials said.
